Anagrama publishes Diarios (1968-1980), the first volume of the intimate diaries that the Mexican writer Sergio Pitol began to write at the age of 35 and that recounts his experiences across the world.
The complete diary collection, which includes the edition and foreword by Ignacio Echevarría, will comprise three volumes, the publisher has explained.
The first volume gathers twelve years of the author’s travels through cities such as Belgrade, Barcelona, Bristol, Warsaw, Paris, Budapest and Moscow, in which he balanced his duties as a diplomat with the development of his literary work.
In its pages, Pitol reveals his most intimate facet, revisiting his personal experiences, erotic passions and reflections on art, up to the intellectual life of Barcelona during the Gauche Divine era at the end of Franco’s regime.
In parallel with this publication, Anagrama will inaugurate the “Biblioteca Sergio Pitol” within the “Compactos” collection, which will include reissues of his most emblematic works with forewords by authors such as Álvaro Enrigue, Pablo Maurette, Daniel Saldaña París and Enrique Vila-Matas.
Sergio Pitol (1933-2018), distinguished with the Cervantes Prize in 2005 and the Juan Rulfo Prize, was the author of works such as El desfile del amor, El arte de la fuga and Tríptico del Carnaval.
