5 Poems from The Underground Threads by Alejandro Sebastiani Verlezza

In Los hilos subterráneos, Alejandro Sebastiani Verlezza explores the possibilities of his voice. Through a variety of registers, poetic styles, and languages, he favors both synthesis and expansion: minimal verse and poetic prose, the instant and the unfolding of atmospheres — the concentration of images and their transformations — shaping a dizzying and versatile rhythm. Accelerations, pauses, and twists sketch an intimate geography of the author and his gaze. The poetry blends with brief narratives, visual and sonic evocations, aphorisms, and short notes, permeated with lyricism and a playful boldness. By traversing multiple “threads” and vicissitudes, Sebastiani Verlezza articulates a singular proposal amid the voices of his generation.

***

Here I have

very tiny

bundles of instants

the rest

doesn’t interest me

well

nor the “have”

they arrive

and they surprise me

with that, that’s enough

the rest

comes as an addendum

crumbs

rips

or distractions

that prevent meeting

tense pendulum

wave

air

so much

so much burns

and it won’t release the ash

from the windows

its intricate dissolution

***

(little postcard)

It was in the park —the day before the demolition— and the afternoon was giving way and the light managed to slip through the trees and the wind made the leaves drag along the ground with languor: night was approaching, and the light seemed to break into hundreds of trails, and the sky slowly shifted color: orange, red, purple, black, already.

***

(the other landscape)

Restless peace of the white
so much remains to be burned!

***

(rainy night)

the force

centrifugal

holds me

in the touch

involuntary

of your ardor

***

(if)

if the paths
marked
burn so fiercely

if only
remains
the ash
that is swept
at the threshold

(if there is no way to gauge
its duration)

only remains
to make them come
and come

or throw oneself
into their plain
like the animal
seen from afar
secretly

alive

alive on the edge
