In a continuing tradition of commitment to excellence in library education and advancement of continuing research in the field of library and information science, the Canadian Library Association/Association canadienne des bibliothèques is pleased to announce the availability of the following scholarships.

H.W. Wilson Scholarship

CLA acknowledges with thanks, the generous support of the H.W. Wilson Foundation for their sponsorship of this scholarship. Unfortunately, they are unable to support this award in 2016 and it will therefore not be offered.  We apologize for any inconvenience.

The H.W. Wilson Scholarship is awarded annually, when merited, to a student entering a school offering an accredited masters degree in library and information studies. Consideration is given to academic achievement, leadership potential and demonstrated interest in the profession.

Conditions:

Scholarship candidates must be commencing studies for their first professional library/information science degree at an institution offering an ALA accredited masters degree in library and information studies. Candidates who have already begun their studies are not eligible.  the Award is given for the duration of one year. Canadian citizenship or permanent resident status is a requirement.

Value of Award: $2,000

CLA/ACB Dafoe Scholarship

Due to the decision made by the CLA membership on January 27, 2016 to dissolve the Canadian Library Association (CLA) predicated on the creation of a new federation of library associations, the organization is not able to award the CLA/ACB Dafoe Scholarship in 2016.  We apologize for any inconvenience.

Awarded annually, when merited, to a student entering a school offering an accredited masters degree in library and information studies.

Consideration is given to academic achievement, leadership potential and demonstrated interest in the profession.

Applying for a Scholarship

Applicants are required to complete a CLA Scholarship Application form, and supply transcripts, reference letters from three referees and proof (letter) of admission to a library school. Scholarship applications are reviewed by a committee of members of the Canadian Library Association/Association canadienne des bibliothèques. Scholarship packages may be e-mailed or mailed to the CLA offices and should include: completed application form, transcripts, references and library school letter of admission.
