Maria likes it when the world stops
and even thinking about it hurts.
“I wish you would never know
that they die like on an iceberg
on my cold lips
all the kisses we never gave each other,” she wrote.
And the world, to which nothing matters,
immediately started turning again.

I grew up with MTV at the helm
in a generation that
doesn’t care about your opinion
while drones always proud
watch the new generations
craft different, simple ways of living
was my generation
the one that burned everything in its path
so that life and the streets
would not lack emblems of struggle

if you knew the things
that I had to see
to give you this tenderness
you would prefer that it be bad
finding the place
that one must occupy in the world
is painful
I live in lines
that go nowhere
in the bank, in the student affairs department, in the supermarket,
at the corner kiosk
as I grow
as my gray hairs
grow longer
over time I learned
to let everyone go first
that is what happens when one
has known since childhood
the place where she belongs

I found a way
to stop complaining
I expelled my thoughts
along with paranoia
now, bearer of peace
I write about beautiful things
drinking lemon tea
in the mornings
to mask the city’s burden
with a new hairstyle
learn a recipe
practice it
to pamper friends
believe that all of this
makes sense
that something big will arrive
by focusing only on the small

it’s sad to know
that all I know how to do
is write poetry
no more wine
no more parties
33 years old
one or two
debts
sometimes
a small revelation
and almost nothing more
